Parent and Player Expectations

As a parent/guardian of a member of a player in the Knoxville Soccer Club, you and your player are expected to adhere to the expectations outlined below:

 Be my child’s best fan! Support my child unconditionally and make him/her feel like a winner at all times!

 Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

 Remember that children participate in sport for their enjoyment, not mine and should be encouraged to play, not forced.

 Recognize that winning is an outcome and not the sole purpose of youth soccer matches and focus on my child’s efforts rather than win/loss record.

 Encourage good sportsmanship.

 Encourage children to play according to the rules and settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence.

 Act as a positive role model by showing exceptional support for all players, coaches and officials.

 Encourage and expect my child to play within the spirit and rules of the game without the intent of causing harm to ANY person.

 Support the efforts to remove all verbal and physical abuse from soccer activities.

 Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.

 Remember that children learn by example. Set a good example and appreciate good performances and skillful plays by ALL participants.

 Respect the decisions of the officials and teach my children to do likewise.

 Support coaches, game officials and volunteers who spend valuable time for the players. Without them, your child could not participate.

 Walk away from the field if I feel I can not control my emotions or actions.

 Refrain from engaging in physical or verbal confrontation with apposing players, coaches, officials or supporters.

 Refrain from negatively discussing other parents, coaches or players with or in the presence of other players, most importantly my own.

 Believe that the referees, just as coaches and players, are attempting to do their best. If I have questions or concerns about an official, I will speak with the coach after a game or practice, away from players ears. Referees should be approched by a coach and never a parent/guardian.

 Refrain from using drug, tobacco or alcohol at Knoxville Soccer Club events.

 Be sure your child is available for practices and games. If a child is absent, it hinders the team. If I know my child will be absent I will advise the coach.

 Report to coaches all injuries, special medical conditions or extenuating circumstances at home that may affect the player.

 I will understand that my child may be disciplined by a coach for violation of the included statements, including missing practices.  This may include less playing time during games as seen fit by my child's coach.

Should at any time a parent/guardian be found to not adhere to the above statements at a Knoxville Soccer Club event they will be asked by a coach or Board member, if present, to cease the problem activity or to leave the premises.  This includes parents from opposing teams.  Play will stop until the parent/guardian has left the premises. Should they refuse the Referee has the right to call the match a forfeit and award a win to the opposing team of the parent/guardian causing the issue by 1-0 should the team by losing or the score tied at the time the game is called or more should the team by leading by more goals at the time the game was called.

Please abide by the Golden Rule whether on the field, sidelines, or spectating.  We are all here to enjoy a fun afternoon of soccer and will show good sportsmanship at all times!
